What started out many years ago with farmers bringing their favorite tractors out of the fields to the local fair and hopefully taking home bragging rights by pulling the heaviest stone boat the furthest has progressed into the HEAVIEST MOTOR SPORT IN THE WORLD!

This years Fair will feature three different classes, Super Stocks, Two Wheel Drive and Modified.

Today’s farm tractors carry 1-2-3 even 4 turbochargers while burning diesel fuel in the smoker class or run alcohol in what were originally gas motors. These are called Super Stocks.

Truck enthusiasts find the Two Wheel Drive competitors using blower enhanced Chevy’s, Hemi’s, custom built Keith Blacks, Rodacks, Sassy’s and more to propel a 6200 pound truck body down the track.

Multi engine Modified’s combine up to three blown motors to meet the challenge in connecting them together and make in excess of 3000 horsepower. The mounting of motors in various configurations; sideways, in line and crank to crank make the competition even tougher.

The afternoon show will start at 1:00pm in front of the grandstand adults 13 and over is $8.00, 12 and under $4.00.  The evening show will start at 6:00pm at the grandstand with adults 13 and over $10.00 and 12 and under $5.00.  New this year, you can purchase a ticket for both shows.  Adults 13 & over is $16 and 12 & under $8

The Oneida County Health Department is offering a variety of health and safety information to county residents this year at the annual Community Health Day.  Health Department programs including the Women, Infants, & Children’s (WIC) Program, Community Wellness, Lead Poisoning Prevention, Early Intervention, Health Education, and Environmental Health.  Health Department representatives will be available to offer information and answer questions from the community.

Some of the 4-H programs that kids will enjoy are the 4-H Horse Shows, Beef Shows, Goat Shows, Sheep Shows, Rabbit Shows, and Poultry Shows. Commerford’s Petting Zoo and Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean Aerial High Wire Thrill Show will be our free shows all week.

Horse racing was an important event on the program of the first fair. It was an easy event to stage because of the Driving Association track. Prior to the invention of the pace car, races were paced by a pole horse, the horse closest to the hub rail. When the horses reached the judge’s stand, the judge would shout “go” and the race was on. If a horse broke by this time, the track bell would be rung and the horses would return to the post to start again.

In 2011 Boonville-Oneida county Fair had a record number of horses, 112 with 22 races. This was the best record for the New York State county fair race circuit. So come join us on Tuesday to see if the record will again be broken and feel the thrill of harness racing at the Boonville Fairgrounds.

Commerford’s Petting Zoo is always a popular attraction with the kids, so we brought it back.  Founded by Robert W. Commerford over 50 years ago, it all began with some simple horse buying and selling. We have since created our own little fun-fair!   We will entertain you with elephants (our elephants have been a part of our family since 1972), camels, ponies, kangaroos and other exotic animals. Our animals put a smile on the faces of children and adults. To keep you entertained while our animals rest we have a super-slide, carousel and other fun rides. Great family entertainment! 

New to the Fair this year is the Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean Aerial High Wire Thrill Show.  The best, most unique, and entertaining show in the fair industry!

Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean Aerial High Wire Thrill Show” is a copyrighted production that incorporates the Sensational Murcia’s world famous High Wire act and the legendary Wheel of Death act all in a very unique setting.

It is your typical “GOOD” pirates against the “BAD” pirates in the never-ending battle for the treasure map, however, this all takes place suspended on a thin wire cable 30 feet in the air over the top of a huge pirate ship!

This is when you see over 70 years combined experience of the Sensational Murcias on the high wire. Watch as they execute various daring feats, acrobats and tricks on the 1/2 inch steel cable, such as sword fighting, the dangerous two man high, actually skipping rope and the finale trick you have to SEE TO BELIEVE!

Also included in the action is the Wheel of Destiny, disguised as an enormous skull and crossbones, where fate is also tempted. As the giant wheel spins the pirates jump, somersault and sword fight all while it is rotating on its axis!

The whole performance is presented in authentic pirate costumes, complete with a beautiful pirate ship backdrop and set, exciting suspenseful music, fantastic use of lighting and smoke effects for an experience that you will never forget. It is nonstop action from beginning to end and guaranteed to thrill all ages.

The Sensational Murcia family high wire act has been featured at many events around the world, including performances in Japan, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, Jamaica, Bahamas, as well as at various fairs, festivals and amusement parks in the USA. Walter Murcia, the patriarch of the family, originally from Colombia, South America, now along with his family, wife Victoria and two sons Alexander and Antony, call Bradenton, Florida home. Walter and Victoria Murcia are proud to be performing with their two sons and nephew, Andres Murcia. Their sons proudly represent the 10th generation of circus performing/ high wire walking in the Murcia family. As you will see the tradition carries on!

The Fair Museum will be opened all week for all fair goers to visit and look at exhibits from the past.

There will also be educational programs and demonstrations in the exhibit hall and throughout the Fairgrounds all week.

Make sure to also check out the Agriculture Awareness displays around the Fairgrounds.   Feel free to take the kids to play “Corny Cornhole” in the Exhibit hall or make a “Circles of the Earth” bracelet to take home as a souvenir, all while learning about Agriculture!
